Women in Parliament

  • Seventh Parliament of Uganda
The 7th Parliament of Uganda has 74 women Members of Parliament (MPs): 13 County Representatives, 56 District Women Representatives, and 5 Special Interests Representatives.

  • East African Legislative Assembly
On November 30, 2001, the heads of state for Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania launched the East African Legislative Assembly and the Court of Justice in Arusha, Tanzania. In the Assembly, Uganda will be represented by nine members, including four women. The nine members were elected by the Members of Parliament. The first round involved electing one woman and one man from each of the four traditional regions. In the second round, MPs chose the ninth person irrespective of region or sex. Uganda's two representatives to the Court of Justice are Lady Justice Solomy Bossa and Justice Joseph Mulenga.
