Gender Advocacy Officer Position - WOUGNET PDF Print E-mail
WOUGNET is seeking to recruit a Gender Advocacy Officer to be based at the WOUGNET Secretariat with some regular field travels. The person shall work under the Gender and ICT Policy Advocacy Program. This position will be initially for one year, renewable on performance exhibited. The Gender Advocacy Officer should be knowledgeable in gender and development issues, ICTs and mainstreaming gender in development policies and programs, working in partnerships.
  • Duties and responsibilities

  • Implement activities and projects under the Gender and ICT Policy Advocacy program

  • Review policy documents and write policy briefs on gender and ICT policies

  • Organize advocacy meetings and workshops for the gender and ICT Policy Advocacy Program

  • Collect , document and disseminate advocacy information/ materials

  • Participate in undertaking research using the Gender Evaluation Methodologies

  • Produce and contribute articles for the WOUGNET Newsletter, website and other WOUGNET ICT Platforms

  • Liaise with UWCI in carrying out Gender and ICT Policy Advocacy activities

  • Document experiences of using ICTs for Development by women and produce materials including DVDs, Video, Digital stories

  • Meet and /or channel requests from WOUGNET members / partners and other organizations for assistance and advise regarding gender related issues

  • Make monthly activity reports on gender and ICT Policy Advocacy activities undertaken that will form a basis for WOUGNET annual reports

  • Periodically participate in assessing the impact of gender and ICT Policy Advocacy Activities

  • Represent WOUGNET at both national and international meetings/workshops and write reports for sharing and dissemination

  • Contribute to proposal writing in particular to raise funds for the Gender and ICT Policy advocacy program.

 

Skills, Experience and Other Requirements:

  • Good understanding of ICT for development theories and practices;

  • Good understanding of gender and development issues.

  • Good ICT skills and application of ICT in development

  • Good knowledge of advocacy and lobbying for policy changes

  • Good interpersonal skills, with an ability to build a team that can effectively support project implementation

  • Good organisational and planning skills including the ability to prioritise and manage own time even under pressure;

  • Good presentation and facilitation skills;

  • Gender sensitive with excellent writing, communication and reporting skills as well as good public relations;

  • Resource mobilisation/fundraising skills

  • Willingness and ability to travel and work outside official working hours.

  • Exposure and experience in using ICTs for development

  • Advocacy and lobbying skills

  • Minimum Qualifications:

A University degree qualification in Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences i.e. Social work and Social administration, Development Studies. Gender and Development studies. Additional study or training in areas of ICT for development will be an added advantage.
