In this world of fast increasing and ever advancing technology, one should be on top of their game as far a technology is concerned. As such, many conmen are making a lot of money off unsuspecting victims in this ever-receding economy. Women have been turned into objects which are illegally sneaked into other countries and are then forced to perform despicable acts in order to acquire a way of living. Some have been forced to become conwomen and make money for the traffickers. Others are kept under the influence of drugs until they become addicts and feel they cannot survive without the help of the drug suppliers. Others have gone as far as involving themselves in pornographic acts for a little money!! Many of these women are recruited over the internet; am sure if some of them knew what was in store for them out there, they would not rush out for these jobs they are promised. This is not right and it is a violation of women on the whole. I heard a story of this girl called Monique. She was from Liberia and because of this technology; she became a victim of adverse circumstances. She was out of a job and she had just been exposed to the internet. Like many people in this era, she joined a dating site where she got to meet many interesting people. To her, this was all just a game where she could flirt and get to know people she would certainly never meet. However, one of the gentlemen picked a real interest in her and this feeling was mutual. Soon, they got to know each other better, and then they were dating, and after six months, they were engaged to be married. It was a happy time of her life. Her fiancé wanted to get married in his home country so they made plans to leave Liberia and head for their new home. When they got to their new home that was when her nightmare began! The man she called her fiancé was not who she had thought he was. He immediately forced her to do obscene things to him and then made her watch movies involving bestial acts informing her that she should watch critically as she would soon be doing this too! Monique’s life has never been the same since. She is now infected with aids, and has done things she doesn’t think she could ever forgive herself for. This is evident violence against women! Let’s join hands to put women trafficking to an end, and end violence against women.
