As Uganda joins the rest of the world to commemorate breast cancer, women have been called upon to go for cancer screening in places where there are free services in this month. Addressing the press at her offices in Ntinda, Kampala, the Vice Chairperson Uganda Women’s Cancer Support Organization, Rebecca Mayengo said that cases of breast cancer are increasing with the last report showing the death of 36 women per every 100,000 women as per Mulago hospital records of 2009.
Mayengo was announcing the free breast and cervical cance rscreening camp they have organized on 30th October 2011 at Kibuli Police Primary school playground where hundreds of women are mobilized to go for free services. Meanwhile, Mayengo says that cancer can be prevented by people modifying their lifestyles through stopping smoking, reduce on alcohol intake and getting involved in physical activities among others. She has called upon all potential Ugandans and none Ugandans to support the fight against all kind of cancer by giving financial and other support to the organizations that are directly involved in fighting the disease.
