ICT presents unique and timely opportunities for young girls. It
promises better future economic prospects, fuller political participation,
communication with the outside world, easy access to information, and an
enhanced ability to acquire education and skills and to transcend
social restrictions. ICT is especially important because
it can provide increased access to resources.
This year 2011 WOUGNET in partnership with Uganda Communications Commission rolls out again to create awareness among the youths (both female and male) about ICTs, their benefits and opportunities to increase their usage of ICTs. Girls are specially targeted to sensitise and empower them to equally utilise ICTs.
The main objectives of the forums are to raise awareness on gender and ICT issues, the role Uganda Communications Commission, consumer rights and obligations, the role of ICTs in development and to equip participants with basic ICT skills
Since 2009 WOUGNET /UCC have organized regional Gender & ICT Camps for the girl child in Eastern, Northern and Western Uganda; Youth Gender and ICT forums (for both female and male youths) in the districts of Arua, Nebbi, Koboko, Fortportal, Hoima, Kasese, and is currently in Jinja, Iganga, Tororo.
