National Union of women with disabilities of Uganda (NUWODU) is seeking to recruit a competent person to fill the position of a Programme Officer who will be based in Kampala but with frequent travel to the project areas implementing a two years project “Promoting gender and disability mainstreaming within the disability fraternity and the mainstream women’s organizations in Uganda”

NUWODU is an indigenous umbrella organization of women with disabilities that brings together all categories of women with disabilities including the physically, sensory and mentally impaired women.

The vision is to have women and girls with disabilities live a dignified life.

The mission is to promote the political, economic and social cultural advancement of women and girls with disabilities through advocacy for their effective participation in development.

NUWODU is implementing a two years project “Promoting gender and disability mainstreaming within the disability fraternity and the mainstream women’s organizations in Uganda” funded by unonimous funders.

NUWODU therefore is seeking to recruit a competent person to fill the position of a Programme Officer who will be based in Kampala but with frequent travel to the project areas to implement the above project.

Duties and responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities will include the following:

1. Lead and manage the project.

2. Prepare work plans and budgets for the smooth running of the project

3. Be responsible for the implementation of the project and ensuring that all outputs and outcomes are delivered on time according to agreed plan.

4. Compile activity and annual reports and submit them to the Executive Secretary and the donor according to the reporting schedule

5. Account for all monies given to him/her for implementation of the organization’s activities;

6. Initiate corrective measures for the smooth running of the project implementation during the project life span.

7. Participate in relevant networks aimed at influencing and promoting mainstreaming of women and girls with disabilities agenda into programmes of government and other service providers particularly in the project areas.

8. Pursue other funding channels available in liaison with the Executive Secretary.

9. Initiate innovations for sustainability of the project and expansion

10. Carry out any other duties and responsibilities relevant to the project as will be assigned by the Executive Secretary and BOD members.

Qualification and Experience:

The interested persons should have the following qualification and experience:

a. Honors degree in Social Sciences/Humanities/Education/Development Studies

b. A minimum of three years experience of working in project management with rural communities. (Knowledge of working with people with disabilities will be an added advantage).

c. Knowledge of management of project finances.

d. Proven ability to prepare and execute action plans

e. Proven ability to compile reports.

f. Knowledge of mainstreaming gender in organization’s programmes and structures will be an added advantage

g. Should have good interpersonal relations

h. Must be computer literate.

i. Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

Interested candidates should be within the age limit of 25 to 45 years.
