Invitation to Participate in Take Back the Tech Campaign 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) in partnership with the Association for Progressive Communications Women’s Networking Programme (APC WNSP) is pleased to invite you to participate in the Take Back the Tech Campaign 2010.

‘Take Back the Tech’ is a collaborative global campaign that calls upon all ICT users to take control of technology and use it to change gender power relations. WOUGNET will be working to localise actions of the Take Back the Tech Campaign to WOUGNET network during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence from November 25 to December 10 2010.

This year’s regional theme is “Engaging Faith-based Communities to Prevent Violence against Women” and WOUGNET will focus its campaign on encouraging local communities to use ICTs to combat VAW.

Activities?

• An SMS campaign targeting participants from all regions of the world
• A Newspaper Insert in the New Vision Publishing Company Ltd, 25th October 2010
• Blogging on issues related to gender based violence as well as strategies and tactics for using ICTs to address violence against women
• Tweeting (#TBTT2010 @wougnet) and using Facebook (www.facebook.com/wougnet) as social platforms for sharing views on VAW
• A half day public dialogue has been scheduled for 30th November 2010 at Grand Imperial Hotel starting at 2.00 pm.
• Painting a wall by women activists and other fans on 3rd December 2010 at 2.00 pm at Wandegeya, Kampala

When?
The Take Back the Tech Campaign will take place on 25th to 10th December 2010, the period in which the annual global 16 Days of Activism to end Violence Against Women happens.

Who should participate?
‘Tech Back the Tech campaign’ is open to participants from all regions of the world, WOUGNET is localising the campaign in Uganda and all people interested in engaging with technology and the issue of violence against women may join the campaign and be part of the change!
