Drawing on WOUGNET/APC work on strengthening the strategic use of ICTs to combat Violence against women a network on VAW and ICTs has been formulated. During a meeting held on 31st August 2010 at Kati Kati Restaurant, participants from organisations working of issues of VAW and/or ICTs agreed to create a sub-network on VAW and ICTs that will interface with the Uganda Women Caucus on ICTs and the GBV network under the Ministry of Gender. The formulated network has been tasked with integrating women's rights perspectives in ICT policies that impact on violence against women and girls as well as raising awareness at the grassroots level. The network is hoped to increase the participation of women's rights organisations and women policy makers in national and international ICT policy making processes.

The meeting was also aimed at chatting the way forward for policy actions related to VAW and ICTs. Key policy issues arising from the country issues paper on VAW and ICTs-Uganda carried out in 2009 were highlighted and discussed, and key follow up actions and channels for advocacy drawn through group discussions.

Participants were informed about the importance/benefits  of networks that include enabling effective advocacy/lobbying, maximising knowledge potential, knowledge transfer(intra/inter-organisational), generating competitive advantage (pulled resource), reduction in cost of doing business, interdependence and performance, being in position to establish joint projects, better responsiveness and adaptiveness among others.

The meeting agreed to establish a toll free line and desk at WOUGNET, collaborate with the police and other networks, establish points in other areas of the country, build the skills of police in ICTs and establish a mailing list for the network.

The VAW and ICT project aims at
•    Mobilizing key stakeholders to stop violence against women and girls by building   feminist analysis into global, regional and national ICT  policy
•    Building and strengthening the capacity   of women and adolescent   girls and women’s rights organizations to use, reclaim and   shape ICT to stop    violence   against women and girls.
•    Creating platforms   and opportunities   for women and adolescent girls to critically engage with ICTs to combat violence  and as survivors  of violence   to contribute   towards self   and collective healing
