The Global Information Society Watch (GISWatch) provides a platiform for civil society perspectives on the state of the Information Society. Through encouraging individuals and organizations to contribute GIWatch also aims at strengthening and supporting network platforms and building capacity in research, analysis and writing. The GISWatch annual process of stock taking helps give focus and context to the policy development process and to civil society network and advocacy at national, regional and global levels.
Individuals and networks across the global have contributed to
selected themes such as Access to Infrastructure and Related Issues in
2008, Access to Global Online Information and Knowledge- Advancing
Human Rights and Democracy in 2009. This year's theme is ICTs and
Environmental Sustainability and authors will specifically look at
ICTs and Climate Change or e-Waste.
GISWatch is published in print and online by the Association for
Progressive Communications (APC), and
Humanist Institute for Cooperation with Developing Countries (Hivos), and collects the perspectives of
ICT academics, analysts, activists and civil society organisations
from over 50 countries across the globe.
WOUGNET has been part of the GISWatch society since 2007 and has contributed perspectives in the Ugandan context.
