On behalf of Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET), we take this opportunity to invite you to participate in WOUGNET’s 10th Anniversary since its inception in 2000 as a non profit organisation with the mission of promoting and supporting the use of ICT by women and women organisations in Uganda, so that they can take advantage of the opportunities presented by ICTs in order to effectively address local and national problems for sustainable national development.
During the ten years of her existence, WOUGNET has made various achievements over the ten years. Some of the achievements over the years include; - Networking and information sharing among women and women organizations in Uganda and world wide. - Received an award in 'ICT Advocacy' category for promoting the communication sector from Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) - WOUGNET Website received the World Summit Award (WSA) in 'e-inclusion' category - WOUGNET Website received the Africa Information Society Initiative (AISI) Media Award in the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) supported category of 'Local Content' - Development of strong partnerships with key policy makers such as the former Ministry of Works, Housing and Communications and the current Ministry of ICT (MoICT), the National Planning Authority (NPA), and Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) - Received funding from the Association for Progressive Communication (APC), the Dimitra Project/FAO, Global Fund for Women (GFW), Hivos, the Technical Center for Agriculture and Rural Co-operation ACP-EU (CTA) and The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD). The work of WOUGNET has been made possible with support from various partners and network members in addition to well-wishers. As a mark to celebrate our achievements and continue with the work towards supporting women empowerment, a number of activities have been planned during the week-long celebration. These will include: ** An SMS awareness campaign - During the last week of May, WOUGNET intends to run an SMS awareness campaign about what we do at Women of Uganda Network, who we work with and our plans for the anniversary. ** A Symposium and Exhibition - during which various presentations will take place, an exhibition - featuring various institutions, corporate companies, NGOs, CBOs, and WOUGNET members' works. This event is scheduled for 1 - 2 June 2010. The purpose of this article is to therefore: 1. WOUGNET will provide space to any organizations that will have supported this cause by paying the 50,000/= (25 US$) and confirming active participation.) Also, our technical support program is preparing a lot of new forms of technology to showcase and share with the members. These include but are not limited to: Digital media and Web 2.0 technologies. This session will be called the “Technical Clinic”. All your technical questions will be answered. I am sure that you do not want to miss out on this.
