The recently concluded global conversation was the first of its nature in the entire globe. It attracted over 6,000 participants from over 155 countries who posted over 9,000 ideas, reactions, opinions, and perspectives. Over the span of 3 days 27th to 31st March 2010, thousands of great conversations formed around a range of topics from Women and Girls empowerment to expanding democracy then the connection between religion and women's rights, to the role of microfinance in expanding opportunities for entrepreneurs.
Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) was privileged to be part of Global Pulse 2010 and Maureen Agena, WOUGNET information Officer was a VIP subject matter expert for the Global Pulse 2010 online event. Her focus was on the global challenge of empowering women and girls. A few interesting statistics from the Global Pulse online event: * 60 percent of participants were from outside the U.S. * 51 percent of participants were female * 50 percent of participants were under 35 years of age. Considering the big number of participants, Dr. Rajiv Shah an administrator from USAID had this to say “I look forward to continuing the conversation with all of you. Global Pulse 2010 has built a strong foundation for future global engagement activities. By listening to each other and collaborating, each of us can become an agent of change and contribute to innovative and sustainable solutions to local and international challenges”. Maureen Agena was interviewed by Mr Hafsa Oubou from Newstime Africa about the entire event. |
