Invitation to Participate in Take Back the Tech Campaign 2009 PDF Print E-mail

WOUGNET in partnership with the Association for Progressive Communications Women’s Networking Programme (APC WNSP) is pleased to invite you to participate in the Take Back the Tech Campaign. 

Take Back the Tech is a collaborative global campaign that calls on all ICT users to take control of technology and use it to change gender power relations. WOUGNET will be working to localise actions of the Take back the Tech Campaign in Uganda during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence from November 25 to December 10, 2009. The 2009 theme for the 16 Days of Against Gender Based Violence is: "Commit  Act  Demand: We CAN End Violence Against Women!".

 

 

Activities that will be carried out for the Take Back the Tech (TBTT) in Uganda include:

- Blogging on issues related to gender based violence as well as strategies and tactics for using ICTs to address violence against women

- An SMS campaign targeting participants from all regions of the world

- A half day public dialogue has been scheduled for 9th December 2009 at Grand Imperial hotel starting at 2.00 pm. The focus of the dialogue will be to create awareness on how ICTs can be used to strengthen the fight against Gender Based Violence

- Painting a wall by women activists and other fans on December 4, 2009, at 2:00pm at Wandegeya, Kampala

When?

The Take Back the Tech Campaign will take place on 25th to 10th December 2009 – in the period in which the annual global 16 Days of Activism to end Violence Against Women happens. The 2009 global theme is Commit • Act • Demand: We CAN End Violence Against Women!

 

Who Should Participate?

Tech Back the Tech campaign is open to participants from all regions of the world. WOUGNET is localising the campaign in Uganda and all people interested in engaging with technology and the issue of violence against women may join the campaign and be part of the change!

 

How do I participate?

A] SMS Campaign

The idea of the SMS-based campaign is to send out SMSs on each of the 16 Days of Activism that will allow individuals and organisations to address the 2009 theme which is: "Commit Act Demand: We CAN End Violence Against Women!".
You can participate in any or all of the following ways:

 1.  Contribute a short message or slogan on the theme of the campaign. If your slogan is chosen, it will be sent out via SMS with you/your organisation credited as the source of the message. 3.  Register your mobile number to receive the SMSs that will be sent out during the 16 Days of Activism. Please include your country code if registering from out of Uganda.

 

The daily SMSs will also be posted to this blog. You are most welcome to visit the blog to add your comments too or to add a new blog.
