NComputing: Getting more from your computer PDF Print E-mail

Today’s PCs are like supercomputers, so most users only utilise a small fraction of the power of their machines. The NComputing solution takes the excess capacity and allows more users to each PC, enjoying the experience of having their own PC at a fraction of the cost of purchasing and maintaining separate computers for each user. Each user's monitor, keyboard, and mouse connect to the shared PC through a small and very durable NComputing access device.

NComputing offers 2 options; the X-series and the L-series. At WOUGNET, we tested the L-Series, but I'll quickly summarise both products.

The X-series allows you to share a single computer between 4 - 11 users, depending on the model and number of kits installed. The cables to the monitor and keyboard of the individual user is limited to 10 meters from the central/shared computer. It is therefore ideal for use in a small office or internet café.

Choose the L-series if you have many users or your users need to be more than 10 meters away from the shared PC. This is because the L-series connects across a standard Ethernet local-area network and it allows up to 30 users of a single PC.

Both solutions will work with Windows and Linux operation systems. Every user has their own keyboard, screen, settings, applications, and data files, so their experience is just like it would be if they were working at an independent machine. For tight security, you can lock the shared computers behind closed doors. And for harsh environments, you can move the PC away from dirt and dust.
