Gender and ICT Policy Advocacy PDF Print E-mail

Improvements in the ICT policy processes in Uganda are expected to result in the increased availability of and/or improved access to timely and relevant information. Hence this program area is a core activity in the long-term sustainability of WOUGNET efforts to promote and support the access and use of ICTs by women and women organisations in Uganda – WOUGNET members in particular.

WOUGNET promotes, facilitates and advocates for gender responsive ICT policy processes that will enable both men and women effectively address national and local problems in ways that are effective and sustainable. Policy processes are inclusive of the various stages from design, planning, implementation as well as monitoring and evaluation.

WOUGNET’s focus over the 2008 – 2010 period will be to advocate and lobby around policies addressing two issues in particular: universal access strategies (such as the Rural Communications Development Fund) and national e-strategies (such as Review of the National ICT Policy and the National Backbone Initiative) to provide equitable access in support of ICT for sustainable national development.
