Strengthening the Use of ICTs to Combat VAW; WOUGNET Discusses a National Strategy PDF Print E-mail
In collaboration with the Association for Progressive Communication Women’s Network Support Programme (APC WNSP), Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) organized a national strategy workshop on 22nd and 23rd September 2009 at NobView Hotel, Ntinda. The main objective of the workshop was to enable key stakeholders in the area of VAW and ICT to explore and understand the connections between violence against women and ICT and develop strategies to find collective and integrated solutions to end violence against women and girls, paying particular attention to ICT policies and interventions.

The second in a series of Gender and ICT youth camps was held in Western Uganda for a period of three days from 26th-28th June 2009 at Maanji Memorial School, Mbarara town. The first camp was held in Eastern Uganda (Mbale) in April 2009 while the next will be held in Northern Uganda (Lira).

ICT presents unique and timely opportunities for women and girls. It promises better economic prospects, fuller political participation, communication with the outside world, easy access to information, and an enhanced ability to acquire education and skills and to transcend social restrictions. ICT is especially important to poor women because it can provide increased access to resources, the absence of which defines poverty. Hence, ICTs are tools that facilitate access to a variety of development resources.

It comprises of organisations and individuals interested in gender and ICT issues that work to advocate for gender sensitive ICT Policies and programs. UWCI Secretariat is based at the Women of Uganda Network Offices.
