Between 26 - 27 May 2011, Foundation for Community Development (FDC), Mozambique in collaboration with New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) hosted an African Business Women Conference in Maputo, Mozambique. This conference brought together women representatives in the world of business from Angola, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, South Africa and Mozambique. Uganda was represented by two members of Icon Women and Young People's Leadership Academy (iCON) through its intergenerational mentoring space for female social and business entrepreneurs-the Uganda Network of Women Entrepreneurs (UNWE). The purpose of this conference was to discuss the establishment of a Network of Business Women in Africa.

eLearning Africa is a conference and exhibition organised by ICWE GmbH that focuses on information and communication technologies (ICTs) for development, education and training in Africa. Serving as a pan-African platform, eLearning Africa links a network of decision-makers from governments and administrations with universities, schools, governmental and private training providers, industry and important partners in development cooperation. Each year a different country hosts the event. This year’s conference took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 24th to 28th May 2011 with the theme “Youth, Skills & Employability” and attracted delegates from 90 countries around the world.

The Eastern African sub-Regional Support Initiative for the Advancement of Women in the East African Community region (EASSI) invites Women’s Rights Activists to be part of the coalition for an East African Community Protocol on Gender Equality movement which is spearheading the campaign as an East African Community Protocol on Gender Equality as a regional instrument.

Today is World Telecommunication & Information Society Day with the theme "Better life in rural communities with ICTs". Globally, the event is being celebrated in Geneva from 16th – 20 May 2011 with some of the several WSIS 2011 forum stakeholders and organizers being ITU, UNESCO, UNCTAD and UNDP and locally in Uganda, The 2011 World Telecommunications and Information Society day ICT Youth forum is being held at Ndejje University today 17th May 2011 and this initiative is led by Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) .

In response to the current situation in the country, the Women of Uganda are organizing a peaceful demonstration dubbed ‘WOMEN’S VIGIL FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE’. Dressed in white and each carrying an empty saucepan to symbolize soaring food prices and the challenges of meeting other basic needs including condemning human rights violations, women from different organizations, political parties and institutions will march within the city and later converge at a yet to be identified venue where they will present a statement to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, Margaret Sekajja.
