Apac District local government has agreed to open and take up the e-society project after termination of the project by IICD and Hivos that supported the project under the supervision of the I-Network in Uganda. The e-society project was established through a collaborative efforts as a locally owned coherent programme by district government ,civil society and stakeholders in 2007 to provide a platform to create opportunities for access to and sharing of information, knowledge and services in order to improve overall service delivery in the district and to strengthened government-civil society interaction and collaboration. This was revealed by Mr Jamara Sam, the Vice Chairperson Board of Trustee of the e-Society and also the Coordinator of the Apac NGO Link Forum.Mr Jamara said a meeting had been organised this week with Chief Administrative Officer, the District information Officer and other officials of the district to handover the project to the full administration of the district. “The meeting is expected to handover the management of the project to the district and provide plans on how the e-society project Apac and its information centres in the four sub counties shall be managed by the district” Says Jamara Sam at his Office Monday morning. The e-society, e-Governement and information societies are all processes underpinned by the digital information and communication technologies and the project that had started on a good note in the initial beginning saw the main donors pulled out of the project citing lack of focus in the project implementation based on the project goals and objectives. The e-society project had a fully paid internet connection, computers and other digital devices at one of the district buildings. The project had also expanded by setting up information centres in the sub counties of Akalo, Akokoro, Aduku and Ayer with computers and internet modems and had strategic collaboration with the WOUGNET’s Kubere Information Center (KIC).
