Moses Owiny, who has been working the last four years to promote issues of women and youths and foster their socio-economic empowerment is to spend the next four months (August - December 2011) shifting his mission from the Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) to work more closely with those at the YWCA. In particular, his primary assignment will be the Power-Up! program. Geared toward improving women’s current status — whether they are unemployed or looking to move up the career ladder or need to enhance their computer skills. Owiny will help with that computer component, offering ways to do social networking via Facebook, Twitter and the like. Women of Uganda Network’s mission is to promote and support the use of such communication technologies as tools to share information and address issues of sustainable national development, he said. He had an internship at the Network and also got a two-year contract as assistant projects officer. It has seemed a good fit for someone who grew up in northern Uganda, where “poverty, ignorance and illiteracy was the order of the day”.

The most common question from projects is how to promote your project. How to get people’s attention, connect with them and get supported. When I spoke to Michel about this he replied that also the Be More projects have the same question. So why not work together and invite as well 1%CLUB projects and both Be More projects. Let’s organize a workshop on digital storytelling and social media.

By Niels Jansen On day 2 I visited Wougnet. I met Milton Ainerhuanga one day earlier in HiveColab and he invited me to visit the projects they’re working on. Great to, finally, see with my own eyes the ‘Community Development through Technology‘ project on the 1%CLUB website. http://onepercentclub.com/projects/wougnetcentre/ On the projectpage Milton describes:’The money is needed to purchase equipment for a training centre in Kampala. This will include, a desktop computer, N-Computing equipment that allows simultaneous use of a single computer by multiple users, a projector (beamer) and a network printer (with scan and photocopy functionality).’
