Gender equality is a term that often brings to mind the concerns of women and the plight of feminism. However for equality among genders to ever truly be grasped the male side of the conflict must also be explored and publicly discussed. Otherwise, we merely create an inverted power struggle. Dr. Henry Manyire and Professor Sylvia Tamale of Makerere University held a public dialogue on the less popular facet of masculinity in relation to gender equity within the context of Uganda and Africa as a whole.

As Uganda joins the rest of the world to commemorate breast cancer, women have been called upon to go for cancer screening in places where there are free services in this month. Addressing the press at her offices in Ntinda, Kampala, the Vice Chairperson Uganda Women’s Cancer Support Organization, Rebecca Mayengo said that cases of breast cancer are increasing with the last report showing the death of 36 women per every 100,000 women as per Mulago hospital records of 2009.

WOUGNET will join the rest of the world in marking the 16 Days of Activism 2011 from 25 November 2011 to 10 December 2011. This year, the regional theme for Africa is "Everyone, Everyday, Every way: Prevent Violence Against Women Your Way! " to reflect our call out to every individual i that whoever you are, you have the power to do something to prevent violence against women. The national theme for the 16 Days of Activism in Uganda is "From Peace in the Home to Peace in the Nation: End Violence Against Women". |

On 11th July 2011, Uganda joined the world to commemorate the World Population Day (WPD). This year’s theme was Uganda @ 33 Million: Act Now. This theme is in line with the global campaign to mark the world at seven billion (w@7bn), a population mark which the world will reach on/around 31st October 2011. To commemorate the w@7bn and U@33m, Uganda Women's Network (UWONET) has launched a campaign seeking to mobilize organizations as well as individuals to undertake an action that is geared towards making the world a better place to live in is ongoing.
