"I was raped by them in front of my husband and children. They held him down with the children while they did it. I was released afterwards for the reason that my husband and children pleaded with them, cried saying "They will kill mama." I cannot remember the exact number because I lost consciousness but they were more than three men on army combat. Afterwards a neighbor helped me jointly with my husband, as I was bleeding. She boiled water and some herbs for me.”

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign started on 25November 2011. The theme of this year's campaign is "From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Let's Challenge Militarism and End Violence Against Women”. This annual international campaign runs from 25 November, International Day against violence against Women, to 10December, International Human Rights Day, in order to symbolically link violence against women and human rights and to emphasize that such violence is a human rights violation. In Uganda, women activists are championing this great cause through a number of activities:

“Today is the 25th of November and for the next fortnight the world will be calling for the elimination of gender based violence. Many prominent and influential men and women would make token appearances at gender events and make politically correct statements.
For once lets expose all those who support gender injustice and inequality but still want the world to believe otherwise. Gender equality and justice should not be an event it should become part of our everyday lives” Muzulu from Zimbabwe.
