Abundant Life For All Ministries
Abundant Life For All Ministries (ALFA Ministries) became a fully registered Voluntary Christian Development Organisation in 2000; working in Uganda to promote rural community development initiatives and projects that focus on community participation, capacity building and ensuring that women, children and youths are the immediate beneficiaries. Action Line for development (ALFORD)
Founded in 1998, Action Line for development is a local Ugandan non-profit making organization, which was formed to improve the social and economic welfare of the people for equal participation in development. Areas of operation include education, health and community development initiatives. Operating in Kampala, Mpigi, Wakiso and northern districts of Uganda, the main target of the organization are vulnerable people and the less advantaged including children, the elderly and the disabled.
African Development Foundation
The African Development Foundation (ADF) is the principal agency of the U. S. Government that supports community-based, self-help initiatives that alleviate poverty and promote sustainable development in Africa. Established by Congress in 1980, it became operational in 1984. Over the last fifteen years, ADF has funded over 1300 activities in 34 African countries. The Foundation's headquarters are in Washington, D.C. It currently has active programs in thirteen sub-Saharan countries: Benin, Botswana, Cape Verde, Ghana, Guinea, Nigeria, Mali, Namibia, Niger, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. ADF works with a partner organization in each country in which it operates. ADF is primarily interested in funding micro and small enterprises,micro-credit, HIV/AIDS education and prevention and community-based Natural Resource Management. The Foundation only funds indigenous African organizations and does not fund scholarships, travel to conferences, governmental or quasi-governmental organizations
African Evaluation Association
The African Evaluation Association (AfrEA) was founded in 1999 in response to a growing demand in Africa for information sharing, advocacy and advanced capacity building in evaluation. It is an umbrella organization for a growing number of national evaluation associations and networks in Africa. It also involves individuals in countries where national bodies do not exist. In conjunction with the national associations and committed donors, AfrEA has helped develop the concept of an African evaluation community. Two Africa-wide evaluation conferences were held, African Evaluation Guidelines developed and directories for African evaluation expertise and other resources established. Africa's role in evaluation was also advocated from regional and international forums. AfrEA is in the process of developing, in partnership with UNIFEM, a Special Interest Group (SIG) in Gender and Development. This SIG will focus on the creation and sharing of knowledge for engendering monitoring and evaluation in Africa. Among others, it is establishing an Africa-wide Network as well as Web-based Directory of gender and development evaluators. It will aim to strengthen the effectiveness and gender-responsiveness of development programs and projects in Africa through the use of rights based and results oriented participatory systems of monitoring and evaluation. The network will share information, resources and experiences. It will develop and share gender evaluation tools and methodologies. It will also encourage the implementation of gender-sensitive evaluations across the continent. AfrEA and UNIFEM would like to encourage other partners to join them in this effort.
African Youth Foundation (AYF)
The African Youth Foundation (AYF) is a non-profit development organisation based in Germany. AYF was created to aid young people in Africa, as well as African Nationals abroad to undertake projects which will enable them obtain skills necessary for their future livelihoods. The organisation's mandate is to promote youth education for African Nationals abroad and in Africa, as well as gender equality, with a view to mobilising and developing the talents of the youth to contribute meaningfully to national and global development. A concept which will motivate the youth to begin their own enterprises particularly in the informal sectors, other than migrating to other countries
Agency for Madi Orphans and Widows (AFMOWO)
AFMOWO’s head office is found in Adjumani district of Uganda. The organization’s mission is to look after orphans, widows in their districts and to keep themselves current but not to be polluted by evil (James 1:27). The organization operates in 4 sub-counties in Adjumani district of Uganda and 3 sub-counties in Moyo district of Uganda. Activities are focused on empowerment, involvement of women in income generating activities and HIV/AIDS awareness as well as social counseling. Attention is paid particularly to women (widows) and orphans.

Bwoidha Oyegha Community Development and AIDS Association (BWOCODE)
Bwoidha Oyegha Community Development and AIDS Association was established in 2003 to create awareness among communities to effectively and efficiently manage society in the wake of HIV/AIDS. The organization operating in Baitambogwe Sub County, Mayuge District of Uganda covers areas of HIV/AIDS awareness raising through drama, counseling and care, handicrafts for income generation, processing of foodstuffs into products, savings, and support of the girl child. The organization targets orphans, women (widows), youth, HIV/AIDS affected persons and community. Poor networking among the stakeholders has contributed to backwardness in the area. FHSE Uganda is affiliated to and registered with the Uganda National NGO Forum.
Gender & Women's Studies for Africa's Transformation
The Strengthening Gender & Women's Studies for Africa's Transformation (GWS Africa) project web site is the first ever site, wholly dedicated to the promotion and development of Gender and Women's Studies on the African continent. The African Gender Institute has established www.gwsafrica.org in collaboration with the community of scholars currently engaged in gender studies all over the continent, and we invite ongoing dialogue and networking. In October 2002, GWS Africa announced the launch of a new electronic journal - Feminist Africa (FA), http://www.feministafrica.org. Feminist Africa is a publication which has grown out of the African Gender Institute's many years of commitment to capacity-building, research, networking and teaching in an environment in which market-oriented approaches now threaten to undermine progressive African gender initiatives. FA provides a platform for cutting-edge, informative and provocative gender work attuned to African agendas. As the first journal on gender with a continental focus, Feminist Africa provides a forum for the publication and dissemination of high quality feminist scholarship African contexts. The journal promotes the incisive combination of intellectual rigour and political insight and accommodates contributions ranging from feature articles to short reports, interviews or journalistic writings. The emphasis is on generating African discourses on gendered implications of a range of African political, educational, cultural and historical concerns across the humanities and social sciences.
Gender on the Development Gateway
Gender on the Development Gateway. The Development Gateway is being built to promote the exchange of knowledge on a wide range of topics including the topic of gender. There are over 700 entries on gender such as articles, policy documents, case studies, and useful web sites. These resources address such topics as gender and ICT, gender and violence, gender and HIV/AIDS, gender and poverty reduction, and gender and food security. Anyone can add content and sign up for automatic alerts and discussion threads. The site is available in several languages.

Global Volunteer Network
Global Volunteer Network, a non profit organisation, places volunteers in community projects throughout the world, giving them the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational, environmental and community aid programs. Examples of the exciting and rewarding activities available to volunteers include teaching English, environmental work, AIDS education, and assisting in an orphanage.The network has a number of projects offered in the Mukono, Jinja, and Kampala area. The programs are aimed at providing primary and secondary education to needy children, orphan care, and community outreach and counseling, and adult literacy. Many of the projects will involve a flexible schedule of various community-based activities. Volunteers will be contributing to community-based development at the lowest local level.
Global Website on Electoral Quotas for Women
International IDEA and Stockholm University's Department of Political Science have launched a new global database website on Electoral Quotas for Women. This website is the first overview of the use of electoral quotas for women worldwide. It is a collaborative research project leading to the production of comparative knowledge and resources on electoral quotas for women and provides information on the various types of quotas in existence today, detailing the percentages and targets in countries where they are applicable. Comments and further information on quotas are encouraged in the 'comment' section of the website

IDEA: Gender and Political Participation
The Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA)'s objective is to promote and advance sustainable democracy and to improve and consolidate electoral processes world-wide. In this regard, IDEA is committed to contributing to the debate to advance gender and democracy issues in general, and to promote women's participation and representation in political life. IDEA's gender programme aims to emphasize not only the quantitative aspects of women's representation, but also the qualitative impact of women in decision-making processes. Inter-Rural Living Farmers and Health Activities Association (IRUFHA)
Operating in Imanyiro and Baitambogwe sub-counties of Mayuge District in Uganda, Inter-Rural Living Farmers and Health Activities Association’s is to uplift the standard of communities in promoting sustainable development through improved livelihoods. The organization, which was established in 2002 targets farmers, orphans and the elderly. Issues covered include health and women’s economic empowerment, improved organic agricultural techniques and home improvement campaigns. What is most lacking in the CSOs in the rural setting is technology especially computers for database management and improved information management systems. Not forgetting e-mail. Hence the call for training in such skills like computer training and access to them.
InterAfrica Group (IAG)
Founded in 1989 and based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, IAG's mission focuses on advancing peace, justice and respect for humanitarian law in the ‘Greater Horn’ of Africa. Their programs combine networking, civic education, advocacy, dialogue and research. Their immediate mandate includes the countries of the Horn of Africa, namely Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia and Sudan, while also dealing with the issues that have wider relevance on the continent. Gender-focused organizations and activities are a growing part of the NGO sector, development discourse and civil society at large in the Horn. IAG's NGO Networking Service (NNS) aims to highlight the actors and actions engaged in raising awareness on gender issues. Participating in forums and events, researching who is who in the sector and investigating the salient issues are tools NNS uses towards this goal. Mayuge Community Christian Development and AIDS Programme was established to be a platform for influencing the Christians to be able to address issues of development and have sustainable incomes in a collective way. Based in Mayuge District of Uganda, the organization deals in health and women’s economic empowerment, income generating activities and ministering love to the hurting world- drawing people to Christ. Activities include carry out campaigns/advocacy for reduction of domestic violence, child labor and abuse, poultry farming, piggery, farming as a business, training in HIV/AIDS awareness, ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and support to the elderly and orphans. There is a lack of equipment to allow the members to document and link their findings with other development partners. The literacy levels are low hence the need to translate materials because most are in English. The increasing number of orphan-headed homes is also an issue that needs to be urgently addressed
