Mission To have a community practising positive behaviour change from HIV/AIDS infection, Malaria and other infections through information, communication and education empowerment.

Issues area of operations Adult Literacy Programme using "REFLECT" and "Sleeping Stone" approaches to promote access and sharing information among rural women; Reproductive health and Rights advocacy; Gender and Education, HIV/AIDS prevention.
Activities Training of community HIV/AIDS workers; "REFLECT" Cycle learning/ classes; Community AIDS education/sensitization; counseling, home visiting/care and referrals; Gender Advocacy; Life skill development for adolescence; Support and supervision.
Affiliation(s) Strengthening Decentralisation in Uganda (SDU), a USAID funded project based on capacity building.
Dissemination Health for all, education and community poverty eradication for sustainable development.

Additional Information Activities undertaken in the year 2004/05

The activities YAAC is undertaking fall under three categories:

  1. HIV/AIDS/STDs Programme:
    • Counselling services, i.e.
      • VCT
      • Referral for management of opportunistic infections
    • Care and support for people living with AIDS and orphans through:
      • Home visiting
      • Distribution of food aid
      • Animal traction
    • HIV/AIDS/STDs Education through:
      • Drama and songs
      • Film shows and discussions
      • Poems
      • Talks
    • Training of community HIV/AIDS workers


  2. Adolescents sexual Reproductive Health and Rights Enhancement. This is through:
    • Life skills discussion in schools AIDS clubs
    • Essay competitions and Debates
    • Girl child Education Campaign
    • Film show/Discussion on RH related issues.


  3. Adult Education (through “REFLECT” methodology)
    • Adult Literacy
    • Implementation of action points raised
    • Gender empowerment.
    • Legal aid education
