Mission UWTPM aims at enhancing the capacities and capabilities of rural women groups to develop and implement programs aimed at wise resource use and therefore restoring and/or maintaining the environment, the natural resource base and supply of tree products.

  • March 26-28, 2001, UWTPM organized a 3-day workshop on 'Women, Population Pressure and the Environment' in preparation for RIO +10, the 3rd UN Meeting on Environment and Development to be held in South Africa in June 2002. The discussions centered on the roles of men and women in population pressure and development, what the first RIO Summit in 1992 spelt out, what has happened since then and what was to be done in the future to alleviate degradation of the environment and ease population pressure here in Uganda.
