    Additional Information Origins of UWESO
UWESO was founded by Mrs. Janet Kataha Museveni in 1986 during her-caused exile in Sweden. With her community of other Ugandan women in exile, they recognised that as mothers of the nation, it was their responsibility to help the Ugandan War Orphans.

UWESO started its work by coming to the rescue of children who were left parentless in the war-torn areas through relief supplies such as food, clothing, shelter and medical care. With time, focus was widened to include direct welfare to these needy orphans especially through provision of basic needs and schoolfees.

In Uganda today, one of every six children is an orphan. This staggering statistic and, or rapid growth of the orphan population is mainly due to HIV/AIDS and has continued to justify the existence and cause of UWESO. The magnitude of the crisis further renders direct support and assitance to be very expensive, unsustainable and ex tremely limited in terms of impact. Hence, the refocusing of UWESO strategy.

    Endowment Fund
In order to ensure sustainability and self-sufficiency, UWESO has embarked on a drive to establish an Endowment Fund. Through local and international fundraising drives, a capital fund for reinvestment is being developed to generate annual interest income. This initiative is expected to generate interest income which, will become an important source for covering future costs of UWESO activities.

"Make a difference. Be a part of the effort to improve the quality of life of Ugandan orphans".
