Build a cohesive organization of sensitized businesswomen that work to bring about economic change in Uganda. UWEAL will continue to build up capacity and train women to run sustainable enterprises in different parts of Uganda.

Activities The objectives of UWEAL are: (1) Provide a forum for women who manage or own commercial enterprises; (2) Carry out research; establish a data bank for use in the promotion and dissemination of information on the association programs; (3) Encourage and facilitate training of women in modern business administration and technologies. This includes advocacy for the establishment of entrepreneurship and commercial skills studies in schools and colleges; (4) Work with existing financial institutions and participate in their special programs for women customers ; (5) Build up organizational capacity up to a level that can help set up a commercial financial institution suitable for women entrepreneurship, creation of a saving culture and a position of self-reliance; (6) Encourage women to develop a spirit of entrepreneurship and continuos improvement of their businesses to compete on international level; (7) Facilitate and intensify group exchange with business community both inside and outside Uganda.

Target Audience UWEAL membership is open to women entrepreneurs, aspiring businesswomen, women professionals, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and partners in women development organizations.
Additional Information UWEAL is a non-governmental organisation registered as a company limited by guarantee. It is non-partisan and not for profit. Presently the Association's strength has grown to 200 members in Kampala and a countrywide network of 500 members in Lira, Jinja, Soroti, Kabale, Luweero.
Achievements of UWEAL include:
  • Established a forum for women to work together as entrepreneurs.
  • Facilitated participation of women in international events and trade missions.
  • Provided an effective forum through which government and donor agencies can consult on women in business issues.
  • Conducted training in various business skills.
  • Established contacts with international women in business organizations.
  • Supported grass root women by marketing their products.
  • Has an established and credible leadership.
  • Opened seven district branches.
  • Started a Savings and Credit scheme throughout the branches.
  • It has fully participated in promoting private sector development and has been the mouthpiece for all organizations promoting women in business.
  • Has an established Secretariat.
