Mission To attain improved welfare of vulnerable children in Uganda through Capacity Building of relevant actors, Advocacy and Networking using Community Based Initiatives.
UCOBAC was formed in 1990 in response to estimates of 1 million orphans in Uganda caused by the effects of the war, AIDS and other related factors.
Geographical area of operations We work in 25 districts
Issues area of operations We work in the area of economic empowerment of women who we believe spend most of their time caring for children. We have many capacity building programmes for women in Eastern Uganda and Mid-Western Uganda.

2) Advocacy on child welfare issues
3) Networking with women and child welfare organizations

UCOBAC activities include:
  • Promotion of information exchange in order to increase awareness of the public, NGOs, communities, and individuals about the plight, needs and rights of vulnerable children through production of advocacy materials and networking.
  • Influencing attitudes, habits and practices of communities in favor of children’s welfare through production of newsletters, contributing articles to existing periodicals.
  • District Based Trainings for local NGOs, CBOs, district affiliates leaders and community leaders. These trainings are in the areas of children’s rights, needs, and development, laws affecting children, management of income generating projects, vocational skills trainings for orphans among others.
  • There is a resource mobilization activity where UCOBAC is able to assist sustainable community based initiatives to enhance their capacities by accessing them to donor funds so as to enable them carry out income generating projects to support vulnerable women and children.
  • UCOBAC directly contributes to achievement of improved protection for children in especially difficult circumstances such as those living with HIV/AIDS and those orphaned by AIDS. Some areas of intervention include;
    • Home visits and home based care for HIV/AIDS patients.
    • Creating scholarship funds for AIDS orphans.
    • Vocation skills training aimed at empowering out of school especially orphans to be both self reliant and useful citizens.
