Additional Information POWL is an umbrella organization for professional and skilled women living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda. With the increasing level of awareness and massive campaign on HIV/AIDS there is still a big fear, stigma and denial among professionals living with HIV/AIDS. This is more prominent for women due to cultural, social and economic subordination. POWL therefore aims at addressing social seclusion, stigma, isolation, self-denial, fear and anxiety that professional and skilled women living with HIV/AIDS face. It exists to empower these women to cope with the challenges of living with HIV/AIDS in the workplace, family and the community. Its operations cover the areas of Eastern, Central, Northern and Southern Regions of Uganda. POWL specializes in Capacity building of POWL members and children, advocacy for the rights of POWL members, service delivery to the community, empowerment of POWL (U) members and community, promotion of information generation and dissemination on HIV/AIDS for professional women.
POWL’s vision is an environment without injustice for positive professional women. In all its activities, POWL aims to demonstrate competence in achieving results that promote value and support its members to enhance their different areas of competence. POWL exercises confidentiality of all its members by not disclosing any individual sero status without due permission from the concerned member.
