| Additional Information |
The fruit farm was started in 1996 with mangoes, jack fruit, avocados and
passion fruits. Today, we continue to plant more fruits, particularly mangoes.
The farm is about 4 acres and we have a total of about 240 trees of which 80 trees have started fruiting. We have started selling some fruits in local markets
especially in Kampala.
The greatest achievements so far is that we have started selling fruits and earning some money after a long period of hard work and sacrificing a lot of money and time for this project. The main difficulties the project has faced are mainly money for paying workers, money for taking care of the trees, planting materials, pestsides, transportation of
fruits.
Future plans include:
- Getting more funders to expand the project. For
example, we have another very big land available for expansion
of about 15 acres.
- We also want to start exporting the fruits to Europe.
- We are also planning to put up a fruit house in Kampala and other towns in Uganda.
