Mission To empower children, women and communities to prevent sexual and other forms of abuse and facilitate the rehabilitation of the survivors through advocacy, training and psycho-social support

HAR's objectives are to:
  • Provide support to survivors of sexual abuse and other forms of gender-based violence
  • Raise awareness of government, NGOs and communities about psychological effects of sexual abuse and other forms of gender-based violence
  • Initiate communication and collaboration with other organisations involved n work with survivors of sexual abuse and other forms of gender-based violence
  • Conduct researchg, documentation and dissemination of information about sexual abuse and other forms of gender-based violence
  • Provide relevant training programmes as regards the psychological aspect of sexual abuse and other forms of gender-based violence

  • Advocacy research and documentation

Activities HAR's activities include:
  • Lobbying and advocating policy makers to ensure the creation of a policy framework conducive for the protection of women and children's rights
  • Raising awareness about child rights, HIV/AIDS, women sexual rights and other forms of gender-based violence
  • Creation and strenthening of linkages with other partners for information sharing and effective service delivery
  • Establishment and strengthening of advocacy groups at the sub-cunty, district and national level
  • Training communities about children's rights and their obligation in protecting them from abuse and neglect
  • Traning communities in basic couselling and communication so as to handle survivors of sexual abuse and other forms of gender-based violence
  • Provision of counselling services to survivors of sexual abuse and gender-based violence
  • Establishment and strengthening refferral mechanisms for the survivors of sexual abuse and other forms of gender-based violence
  • "Letter Link" communication, whereby children write letters to trained cousellors, sharing their concerns and feelings

Hope After Rape is a voluntary women's Non-Governmental Organisation founded in 1994 as a result of concern about the increasing number of reports of child sexual abuse, rape and gender-based violence.
