| Activities |
- Communicate with and collaborate with relevant international, regional
NGOs and networks.
- Participate in the planning and design of regional work plans and
meetings.
- Identify National Focal Points.
- Establish communication with National Committees, and disseminate
relevant information.
- Liaise with and input into relevant regional policy processes.
- Regular communication with the Head and other Regional Secretariats.
- Prepare funding proposals for specific activities such as regional
meetings.
- Data collection and publication in regionally important areas of G, S & T.
- Prepare resource materials, relevant publications, and establish a
regional database.
Activities achieved so far:
- Set up a regional secretariat
- Corresponding channels with national Governments and regional organs
involved in Gender, Science and Technology (G, S & T) issues are established
in four countries (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda)
- There are four established National Focal Points with their respective
National Committees that are reviewing their national situations and will
formulate action plans regarding G, S & T for sustainable human development.
- Established channels of communication with stakeholders,
Identified national focal points and facilitated the establishment of
national committees, in four countries in the East Africa Sub region
(Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda)

| Additional Information |
- The UNCSTD Gender Working Group's recommendations are not well known by
most of the stakeholders in the region;
- GAB Africa region secretariat is not yet fully aware of the existing
national policies, frameworks, programme and action plans in G, S & T in the
region;
- The knowledge, application and utilization of ICTs in the region are
extremely low;
- The situation of women at diverse levels of S & T activities in the region
is still very poor
