Mission A membership organization committed to service for the disadvantaged groups of people in Northern Uganda through participatory capacity building
Geographical area of operations Lira and Apac Districts and regionally - Northern Uganda.
Issues area of operations Programme Goal: To improve social justice and economic conditions of the disadvantaged groups of people in Lira and Apac districts.

Programme Objectives:
  1. To strengthen the capacity of NGOs and CBOs in Lira and Apac districts to run their programmes and improve the productivity of their members.
  2. To improve on the relationship between men and women, thereby raising the level of opportunities available to women and their status in the society.
  3. To strengthen the capacity of DETREC to enable it serve the NGO/CBO community in Lira and Apac districts with effectiveness and efficiency
  4. To contribute to the development of a strong NGO/CBO community in Lira and Apac districts.
Activities DETREC programme activities and dissemination are:
  1. Training & Sensitization
    • CBO/NGO Management Capacity Building Training to strengthen the operation of the beneficiary groups and NGOs.
    • Skills training to promote sustainable agricultural activities of the groups. I.e. to increase yields, production and household incomes.
    • Gender Awareness and Analysis is done through district level trainings in Lira and Apac disticts
    • Children in development is mainly a partnership programme done with Save the Children Norway (Uganda) to promote child-centred community development, initially, in Amach sub-county
    • Radio programmes on legal and gender issues conducted on a weekly basis in two radio stations one in Lira one in Apach for the next four years
    • Centralized Trainings and Trainer of Trainers workshops done on topical issues on a bi-annual basis for key NGOs and CBO partners in Lira and Apac. This includes in-house training for resource persons, members and staff.


  2. Research:
    • Baseline studies conducted as benchmarks for programme interventions( e.g. 2001-2005)
    • Annual CBO/NGO studies to select news beneficiary groups that have applied for programme trainings
    • Action Research is usually carried out as Training Needs Assessments. This is an empowering process that enlightens and enables people to decide on their needs
    • Monitoring and evaluation (M & E)


  3. Resource and Documentation Center:
    A resource center is being developed for demonstration, practical skills, documentation and other resources such as internet, e-mail and library facilities. This is where demonstration facilities, audio-visuals, Research Results, Training Reports, and other publications are kept. This an open facility which can be accessed by Members, staff and any other interested persons.
