Mission Asociatia Femeilor Din Romania (AFR) is the first democratic organization for women that started during the December 1989 revolution, as a result of the necessity to organize, represent and defend Romanian women's rights. It is a non-governmental, non-profit and non-political organization, legally established in 1990.

AFR has 9350 members in Bucharest and 20 branches in different Romanian counties. During the twelve years of existence, AFR - Women's Association from Romania - the initiator of the national women's rights movement - has become a strong link between organizations, committees and coalitions that work for the benefit of Romanian women.
Affiliation(s) AFR is member of the Romanian NGO's Coalition for Reproductive Health (from 1998) and initiator of the Romanian Coalition for Culture of Peace and Non Violence (from 1999).
AFR is affiliated to the Federation of Balkan NGO's for Peace and Cooperation (FEBANGO-Athens 1996), to the Women's NGO's Network from Central and Eastern Europe "Karat- Coalition for Regional Action" (Varsovia 1997) and to the UNESCO's Learning at Distance Network "Aladin-Network of networks" (Hamburg 1998).
Dissemination AFR links between organizations, committees and coalitions that work for the benefit of Romanian women.
Target Audience A pragmatic approach of the Romanian women problems gives us a wide audience among the target group. Our activity is strongly based on volunteering. Women from groups interested in our regional projects. We don't have age limit and other discrimination.
Additional Information AFR does not take member fees, its funds are coming from members contributions, projects, programs and other activities.

1999
  • Seminar "Management, communication and proposal writing" Brasov (Partner Women's Ecumenical Forum - Switzerland)
  • Training "Culture of Peace and Non violence" Buzau-Sarata Monteoru (Partners International Fellowship and Reconciliation - I.F.O.R. - the Netherlands and the Romanian Alliance for Peace)
  • Seminar "Feminine youth in front of the third millenium"-Management and communication (Partner Romanian Ministry for youth Sport)
1999-2000
  • Counseling and support center for the citizen in need - Bucharest (With the financial support of Global Fund for Women, U.S.A.)
2000
  • Training "Women building Peace in their homes, in their countries and in the world", Mamaia (Partners International Fellowship and Reconciliation - I.F.O.R. - the Netherlands and Norwegian Church Aid)
2001
  • Project "Help Me to Help You" Training of 25 young girls from orphanages (With financial support from The Foundation for An Open Society, program "Women for Social Change")
From 1990 we have had a permanent Humanitarian Program "Let's Help the Poor!"
