Open Source Initiatives in Uganda

Linux Users in Uganda (LUG)
The Linux Users in Uganda mailing list is for those working in the IT field in Uganda and are interested in and use Open Source Software. The list is administered by Lunghabo Wire James of Linux Solutions and Kiggundu Mukasa of Kym Net. Plans are also underway to conduct regular meetings of Linux Users in Uganda. Open Source Software - the Alternative for Africa
On February 15, 2003, the monthly I-Network seminar series was hosted at the Uganda Martyrs University (UMU). The seminar was one of the activities jointly organised by UMU and the I-Network for a day dedicated to Open Source Software (OSS). The general public, university students and people from government and industry were invited to participate in information sessions and demonstrations of OSS. Kompyuta ne Yuganda
Kompyuta ne Yuganda is a Luganda translation project to enable any literate Luganda speaker (and probaly speakers of some other bantu languages) make use of the power of electronic computers and information technology. The Translation Project is an international voluntary organisation whose aim is to coordinate software developers, people who can translate and computer users (running Linux, GNU and other *NIXen) in an effort to enable computers to "speak" in as many of the world's languages as possible.
