NAWOU OFFICIAL REPRESENTATIVES TO THE UNITED NATIONS

The National Association of Women Organisations in Uganda (NAWOU) is an indigenous umbrella for women organisations with a mission "To promote a coordinated network of member organisations for efficient use of resources in order to improve on the status and conditions of women in Uganda".

The National Executive Committee is pleased to announce that the National Association of Women Organisations in Uganda, NAWOU, was granted SPECIAL Consultative Status by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations at its May 2001 session.

In order to carry out this consultative relationship with the Economic and Social Council, there is need to identify and screen potential representatives to be designated to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, and the United Nations offices in Geneva and Vienna. We will also need a representative to the Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

We are soliciting applications from capable individuals and recommendations of people, who are interested in representing NAWOU in establishing constructive consultative relations with the United Nations. The designation of representatives will be done on a yearly basis with possible extension.

Call for Application for Official Representatives

The National Association of Women Organisations in Uganda (NAWOU) Calls for Application for Official Representatives to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

The Requirements and Terms and Conditions

  1. A female Ugandan person who believes in the spirit, purposes and principles of the charter of the United Nations.
  2. A person who is willing to support the work of the United Nations and to promote knowledge of its principles and activities, in accordance with the aims and purpose of the National Association of Women Organisations in Uganda.
  3. A person with good communication skills. Proficiency in the English language but with knowledge of French, Spanish or German.
  4. A person who has a voluntary spirit and who can commit her time and energy to participate and speak for the objectives of NAWOU. A designated representatives is required to sit as an observer at selected public meetings of the council, Commissions, Ad Hoc Committees and other subsidiary bodies of the Council, submit written statements relevant to the work of the Council, make oral presentation during meetings, and participate in international conferences convened by the United Nations and their preparatory process.
  5. A person who has the stamina, enthusiasm and resources to procure funds to attend these meetings and other related functions in order to carry out the consultative relations with the United Nations.
