KITE Grant Recipient: Lungujja Women's Association

Lungujja Women's Association (LWA) is a KITE grant recipient and have received computer equipment, which will benefit their 48 active members, as well as other women in the Rubaga district of Kampala. The Association will be able to calculate their interest payments electronically, leaving them with more time to spend on other projects. They will also be able to research business strategies online, use e-mail and web discussion forums to network with other women's organizations, and eventually train others in the use of computer technology.

Following up on a posting to the WOUGNET mailing list about the KITE program, LWA successfully applied for the computer equipment they have now received in Kampala. Indeed, LWA is the first recipient of the KITE program! Keys to Information, Technology, and Education (KITE) is a nonprofit organisation based in the US that is addressing the global digital divide by offering free, customized computer packages to community groups in developing countries. Click here for a report on Working with the Lungujja Women's Association (LWA) by Chloe Puett, KITE Communication Director. For more information about KITE, visit http://www.kiteinc.org.

Local technical support is being provided by the East Africa Help Desk (EAHD), a charity organisation of Computer Frontiers, Inc. (CFI). For information about CFI, visit http://www.cfi.co.ug. This support will include setting up the computer equipment as well as providing training to LWA members in the use of their computer equipment.
